ununoctium
Ununoctium, also known as oganesson, is a synthetic element with the atomic number 118. It is part of the noble gases group in the periodic table. Discovered in 2002, it is named after the Russian physicist Yuri Oganessian, who contributed to its discovery. Due to its extremely short half-life, ununoctium is highly unstable and has only been produced in minute amounts.
As a member of the noble gases, ununoctium is expected to have properties similar to other elements in this group, such as neon and xenon. However, its unique atomic structure may lead to different chemical behaviors. Research on ununoctium helps scientists understand the limits of the periodic table and the nature of heavy elements.
