turbinates
Turbinates are small, bony structures located inside the nasal cavity. They are covered with a layer of mucous membrane and help to warm, humidify, and filter the air we breathe. There are three main pairs of turbinates: the superior, middle, and inferior turbinates, each playing a role in regulating airflow.
These structures also help to trap dust, allergens, and other particles, preventing them from entering the lungs. When turbinates become swollen due to conditions like allergies or infections, they can cause nasal congestion, making it difficult to breathe through the nose.
