transverse sinuses
Transverse sinuses are large venous channels located at the back of the skull. They are part of the dural venous sinus system, which collects blood from the brain and drains it into the internal jugular veins. The transverse sinuses run horizontally across the skull, connecting the superior sagittal sinus to the sigmoid sinuses.
These sinuses play a crucial role in regulating intracranial pressure and ensuring proper blood flow. They are lined with a layer of endothelial cells and are surrounded by dura mater, a tough protective membrane. Dysfunction or blockage of the transverse sinuses can lead to serious medical conditions.
