Superior Sagittal Sinus
The Superior Sagittal Sinus is a large venous channel located in the brain. It runs along the top of the skull, within the dura mater, which is the outermost layer of the meninges. This sinus collects blood from the brain and drains it into the internal jugular veins.
This structure plays a crucial role in the brain's venous drainage system. It receives blood from various smaller veins and is involved in the absorption of cerebrospinal fluid through arachnoid granulations. Proper functioning of the superior sagittal sinus is essential for maintaining healthy brain circulation.
