space rock
A "space rock" typically refers to any solid object found in space, such as an asteroid or a meteoroid. These objects are remnants from the early solar system, formed from dust and gas that clumped together. Asteroids are larger and mostly found in the asteroid belt between Mars and Jupiter, while meteoroids are smaller fragments that can enter the Earth's atmosphere.
When a meteoroid enters the atmosphere and burns up, it creates a bright streak of light known as a meteor. If it survives the journey and lands on Earth, it is called a meteorite. Studying space rocks helps scientists understand the formation and evolution of our solar system.
