short-tailed shearwater
The short-tailed shearwater, also known as Ardenna tenuirostris, is a medium-sized seabird found primarily in the Southern Hemisphere. These birds are known for their long wings and streamlined bodies, which allow them to glide effortlessly over the ocean. They typically measure about 30 to 40 centimeters in length and have a wingspan of around 80 to 90 centimeters.
Short-tailed shearwaters are migratory, traveling thousands of kilometers between their breeding grounds in Australia and New Zealand and their wintering areas in the North Pacific. They feed mainly on small fish and invertebrates, diving into the water to catch their prey. These birds are also known for their remarkable ability to navigate vast distances during migration.
