saguaro cacti
The saguaro cactus is a large, iconic cactus native to the Sonoran Desert in the southwestern United States and Mexico. It can grow to be over 40 feet tall and live for more than 150 years. The saguaro has a distinctive appearance, with a tall central trunk and several upward-reaching arms.
These cacti bloom beautiful white flowers in late spring, which open at night and close by the next afternoon. The flowers are pollinated primarily by bats and bees. In addition to their striking appearance, saguaros provide essential habitat and food for various desert wildlife, including birds and small mammals.
