pupillage
Pupillage is a period of practical training for aspiring barristers in the United Kingdom. It typically lasts for one year and follows the completion of a law degree and the Bar course. During this time, pupils work under the supervision of experienced barristers, gaining hands-on experience in legal practice.
Pupillage is divided into two parts: the first six months, known as the "non-practicing" period, where pupils observe and learn, and the second six months, called the "practicing" period, where they can represent clients in court. Successful completion of pupillage is essential for becoming a fully qualified barrister.
