proboscis monkeys
Proboscis monkeys, known scientifically as Nasalis larvatus, are unique primates native to the rainforests of Borneo and Sumatra. They are easily recognized by their large, distinctive noses, which can be particularly prominent in males. These monkeys have a reddish-brown fur coat and long limbs, making them well-adapted for life in the trees.
These social animals live in groups called troops, typically consisting of one male and several females. Proboscis monkeys are primarily herbivorous, feeding on leaves, fruits, and seeds. They are also excellent swimmers, often seen diving into rivers to escape predators or to find food.
