Nasalis larvatus
The Nasalis larvatus, commonly known as the proboscis monkey, is a unique primate native to the rainforests of Borneo. It is easily recognized by its large, distinctive nose, which is more pronounced in males. These monkeys typically have a reddish-brown coat and long limbs, making them well-adapted for life in the trees. They primarily feed on leaves, fruits, and seeds.
Proboscis monkeys are social animals, living in groups that can consist of up to 20 individuals. They are known for their strong swimming abilities, often using rivers to escape predators. Their populations are threatened by habitat loss due to deforestation and human activities.
