precentral gyrus
The precentral gyrus is a prominent structure located in the frontal lobe of the brain, specifically just in front of the central sulcus. It is primarily responsible for motor control, as it contains the primary motor cortex, which sends signals to muscles to initiate voluntary movements.
This area of the brain is organized in a way that different regions correspond to different parts of the body, a concept known as the motor homunculus. Damage to the precentral gyrus can lead to motor deficits, affecting a person's ability to move specific body parts.
