Homonym: plague (Curse)
Plague is a serious infectious disease caused by the bacterium Yersinia pestis. It primarily affects rodents but can be transmitted to humans through bites from infected fleas or contact with contaminated materials. Symptoms include fever, chills, and swollen lymph nodes, often referred to as buboes.
Historically, plague has caused significant outbreaks, the most notable being the Black Death in the 14th century, which resulted in millions of deaths across Europe. Today, while rare, plague still occurs in some regions, and antibiotics can effectively treat it if caught early. Public health measures help prevent its spread.
