palmar fascia
The palmar fascia is a layer of connective tissue located in the palm of the hand. It helps to support the skin and underlying structures, providing stability and protection. This fascia is divided into three main parts: the central part, which covers the tendons of the fingers, and two lateral parts that extend towards the sides of the hand.
In addition to its structural role, the palmar fascia is involved in the movement of the fingers. It connects to the tendons of the flexor muscles, allowing for smooth and coordinated hand movements. Conditions affecting the palmar fascia, such as Dupuytren's contracture, can lead to restricted finger movement.
