oceanic-continental
The term "oceanic-continental" refers to a type of tectonic plate boundary where an oceanic plate meets a continental plate. In this interaction, the denser oceanic plate is forced beneath the lighter continental plate in a process known as subduction. This can lead to the formation of deep ocean trenches and volcanic arcs on the continental side.
As the oceanic plate descends, it melts and can create magma that rises to the surface, resulting in volcanic activity. This boundary type is often associated with significant geological features, such as the Andes Mountains in South America and the Mariana Trench in the Pacific Ocean.
