neural signaling
Neural signaling is the process by which neurons communicate with each other and transmit information throughout the nervous system. This communication occurs through electrical impulses called action potentials, which travel along the neuron's axon. When these impulses reach the end of the axon, they trigger the release of chemical messengers known as neurotransmitters into the synapse, the gap between neurons.
Once released, neurotransmitters bind to receptors on the neighboring neuron, leading to either excitation or inhibition of that neuron. This complex interaction allows for the rapid transmission of signals, enabling functions such as movement, sensation, and cognition in organisms, including humans.
