mizrab
A mizrab is a traditional finger pick used in playing the sitar, a stringed instrument from the Indian subcontinent. Made from materials like metal or plastic, it allows musicians to pluck the strings with precision and control, enhancing the instrument's unique sound. The mizrab is typically worn on the index finger and is essential for producing the intricate melodies characteristic of sitar music.
In addition to the sitar, the mizrab is also used with other string instruments, such as the sarod and esraj. Its design can vary, with some featuring decorative elements, reflecting the cultural significance of these instruments in genres like Hindustani classical music.
