mesmerism
Mesmerism is a practice developed in the 18th century by Franz Anton Mesmer, a German physician. It involves the use of magnetic forces to influence the mind and body, aiming to promote healing and relaxation. Mesmer believed that an invisible fluid, or "animal magnetism," flowed through all living beings, and that imbalances in this fluid could lead to illness.
The technique often included techniques like hypnosis and suggestion, which are now recognized as part of modern psychology. Although mesmerism itself is not widely practiced today, it laid the groundwork for the development of hypnotherapy and other therapeutic practices that explore the connection between the mind and body.
