masu
"Masu" is a traditional Japanese wooden box used for measuring rice and other grains. It is often made from cedar or cypress, which gives it a pleasant aroma. The size of a masu can vary, but it typically holds about 1.8 liters, equivalent to a shō, a unit of measurement in Japan.
In addition to its practical use, masu is also associated with Japanese culture and ceremonies. It is commonly used during celebrations, such as the New Year, where it may be filled with sake, a traditional Japanese rice wine, for toasting and sharing among friends and family.
