luzzu
A luzzu is a traditional fishing boat commonly found in the Mediterranean, particularly in Malta. Characterized by its vibrant colors and unique eye motifs on the bow, the luzzu is designed for both fishing and transportation. The boat's shape is typically rounded, allowing it to navigate the often rough waters of the sea.
These boats are usually made from wood, although modern versions may use fiberglass. The eye painted on the luzzu is believed to protect fishermen from the dangers of the sea and bring good luck. Today, luzzi are not only used for fishing but also serve as a symbol of Malta's maritime heritage.
