lacrimal gland
The lacrimal gland is a small, almond-shaped gland located in the upper outer part of each eye socket. Its primary function is to produce tears, which help to keep the surface of the eye moist and protect it from irritants. Tears also contain enzymes that help fight infections.
When the lacrimal gland is stimulated, such as by emotions or irritants, it releases tears into the eye. These tears then drain through small openings in the inner corner of the eyelids into the nasolacrimal duct, which leads to the nose. This process helps maintain eye health and comfort.
