komal (Soft)
Komal refers to a musical term in Indian classical music that means "soft" or "gentle." It is used to describe certain notes or swaras that have a delicate and soothing quality. In the context of Hindustani music, komal notes are typically associated with emotional expressions and are often used to evoke feelings of tenderness or melancholy.
In the Indian music system, there are seven primary notes, and among them, the komal notes are the flattened versions of the major notes. For example, komal re and komal dha are the soft versions of the second and sixth notes, respectively. These notes play a crucial role in creating various ragas, which are melodic frameworks for improvisation and composition.
