ischiocavernosus
The ischiocavernosus is a muscle located in the pelvic region, specifically on either side of the penis in males and the clitoris in females. Its primary function is to help maintain an erection by compressing the crura of the penis or clitoris, which increases blood flow and pressure in these areas during sexual arousal.
This muscle is part of the pelvic floor and plays a role in sexual function. It is innervated by the pudendal nerve, which is responsible for the sensation and motor control of the pelvic region. Strengthening the ischiocavernosus can contribute to improved sexual health and function.
