inguinal hernia
An inguinal hernia occurs when a portion of tissue, often part of the intestine, pushes through a weak spot in the abdominal muscles, typically in the groin area. This condition can happen in both men and women, but it is more common in men due to the natural weakness in the inguinal canal, where the spermatic cord passes.
Symptoms of an inguinal hernia may include a noticeable bulge in the groin, discomfort or pain, especially when lifting heavy objects, coughing, or straining. Treatment often involves surgery to repair the hernia and strengthen the abdominal wall, preventing complications such as incarceration or strangulation of the tissue.
