in-law suite
An in-law suite is a self-contained living space within a larger home, designed to accommodate family members, often elderly parents or adult children. It typically includes a bedroom, bathroom, and sometimes a small kitchen or kitchenette, providing privacy and independence while still being close to the main household.
These suites are popular in multi-generational households, allowing families to live together while maintaining separate living areas. They can be part of the original home design or added later as a renovation. In-law suites are also known as granny flats, accessory dwelling units (ADUs), or secondary suites.
