hydrochlorofluorocarbon
Hydrochlorofluorocarbons (HCFCs) are a group of chemical compounds used primarily as refrigerants, solvents, and in foam production. They contain hydrogen, chlorine, fluorine, and carbon, which makes them less harmful to the ozone layer compared to their predecessors, chlorofluorocarbons (CFCs). However, HCFCs still contribute to ozone depletion and global warming.
Due to their environmental impact, the production and use of HCFCs are being phased out under the Montreal Protocol, an international treaty aimed at protecting the ozone layer. Alternatives, such as hydrofluorocarbons (HFCs) and natural refrigerants, are being developed to replace HCFCs in various applications.
