Huacaya is one of the two main breeds of alpacas, known for its soft, dense fleece. This breed has a compact body and a fluffy appearance, resembling a teddy bear. Huacayas are typically smaller than their counterpart, the Suri alpaca, and their fleece is crimped, which gives it a woolly texture.
These animals are native to the high Andes of South America, particularly in Peru, Bolivia, and Chile. Huacayas are well-suited for cold climates due to their thick fleece, which provides excellent insulation. They are primarily raised for their fiber, which is used in textiles and clothing.
