hot aisle/cold aisle containment
Hot aisle/cold aisle containment is a data center cooling strategy that organizes server racks in alternating rows. In this setup, the front of the racks, where cool air is drawn in, faces one aisle (the cold aisle), while the back of the racks, which expels hot air, faces the opposite aisle (the hot aisle). This arrangement helps to optimize airflow and maintain efficient cooling.
To enhance efficiency, containment systems can be implemented. Cold aisle containment involves enclosing the cold aisle with doors and panels, preventing warm air from mixing with the cool air. Conversely, hot aisle containment seals the hot aisle, ensuring that hot air is directed to the cooling units, improving overall energy efficiency.
