harp seal
The harp seal is a marine mammal found primarily in the North Atlantic and Arctic Oceans. Known for its distinctive black markings on a light gray coat, it can weigh up to 300 pounds and grow to about 6.5 feet in length. Harp seals are excellent swimmers, using their streamlined bodies to navigate through icy waters.
These seals are social animals, often seen in large groups on sea ice. They primarily feed on fish and crustaceans, using their sensitive whiskers to detect prey. Harp seals are also known for their unique vocalizations, which they use to communicate with one another in their natural habitat.
