The walrus is a large marine mammal known for its distinctive long tusks, whiskers, and blubbery body. They primarily inhabit the cold Arctic regions and are often found on ice floes or beaches. Walruses are social animals, typically living in groups called herds, and they feed mainly on benthic invertebrates like clams and mollusks.
Walruses have a thick layer of blubber that helps insulate them from the frigid waters. They are excellent divers, capable of holding their breath for up to 30 minutes while searching for food on the ocean floor. Their tusks, which are elongated canine teeth, are used for various purposes, including helping them haul out onto ice and establishing dominance within their social groups.
