greater pelvis
The greater pelvis, also known as the false pelvis, is the upper part of the pelvic cavity. It is located above the pelvic brim and is bordered by the iliac bones on the sides and the lumbar vertebrae at the back. This area supports the abdominal organs and plays a role in the overall structure of the human skeleton.
Unlike the lesser pelvis, which is involved in childbirth and contains the pelvic organs, the greater pelvis does not directly participate in these functions. Instead, it provides a space for the intestines and contributes to the stability of the pelvic girdle.
