gannet
The gannet is a large seabird known for its striking white plumage and long wingspan, which can reach up to six feet. These birds are excellent divers, plunging into the ocean at high speeds to catch fish, their primary food source. Gannets are often found in colonies on coastal cliffs and islands, where they nest in large numbers.
There are three species of gannets: the Northern Gannet, the Cape Gannet, and the Australasian Gannet. They are recognized for their distinctive yellowish heads and black-tipped wings. Gannets are social birds, often seen flying in groups and performing elaborate courtship displays during mating season.
