The gallbladder is a small, pear-shaped organ located beneath the liver. Its main job is to store and concentrate bile, a digestive fluid produced by the liver. Bile helps break down fats in the food we eat, making it easier for our bodies to absorb nutrients. When we eat, the gallbladder releases bile into the small intestine to aid in digestion.
If the gallbladder becomes inflamed or develops stones, it can lead to pain and digestive issues. Conditions like gallstones can occur when bile hardens into small, pebble-like substances. In some cases, doctors may recommend removing the gallbladder through a procedure called cholecystectomy.
