fin whale
The fin whale is the second-largest animal on Earth, reaching lengths of up to 88 feet (27 meters) and weighing as much as 80 tons. These marine mammals are known for their slender bodies and long, streamlined shape, which helps them swim efficiently in the ocean. Fin whales are found in all major oceans and prefer deep, open waters.
Fin whales primarily feed on small fish and krill, using a method called lunge feeding to take in large amounts of water and prey. They are known for their distinctive, tall dorsal fin and can often be seen swimming alone or in small groups. Their populations are currently recovering after being heavily hunted in the 20th century.
