Épée is a type of fencing weapon characterized by its triangular blade and a large guard. It is one of the three weapons used in the sport of fencing, alongside foil and sabre. The épée is heavier than the foil and has a stiffer blade, allowing for more powerful thrusts.
In épée fencing, the entire body is a valid target, and points are scored by making contact with the opponent's body using the tip of the blade. Unlike foil and sabre, there is no right of way rule, meaning that both fencers can score simultaneously if they hit each other at the same time.
