ectrodactyly
Ectrodactyly is a rare genetic condition characterized by the absence of one or more fingers or toes. This condition can affect the hands, feet, or both, leading to a split or cleft appearance. Ectrodactyly can occur as an isolated condition or as part of a syndrome, such as Ectrodactyly-Ectodermal Dysplasia-Clefting (EEC) syndrome.
The exact cause of ectrodactyly is often linked to mutations in specific genes. It can be inherited in an autosomal dominant pattern, meaning only one copy of the mutated gene from an affected parent can lead to the condition in their offspring. Treatment typically involves surgical intervention to improve function and appearance.
