dizygotic
Dizygotic refers to twins that develop from two separate eggs fertilized by two different sperm cells. This type of twinning occurs when a woman releases multiple eggs during ovulation, leading to the formation of two embryos. Dizygotic twins are also known as fraternal twins and can be of the same sex or different sexes.
Unlike monozygotic twins, which originate from a single fertilized egg that splits into two, dizygotic twins share about 50% of their genetic material, similar to regular siblings. This genetic variation means that dizygotic twins can have different physical traits and personalities, despite being born at the same time.
