cholangitis
Cholangitis is an infection of the bile ducts, which are tubes that carry bile from the liver to the gallbladder and small intestine. This condition often occurs when a blockage, such as a gallstone or tumor, prevents bile from flowing properly. Symptoms may include fever, chills, jaundice (yellowing of the skin and eyes), and abdominal pain.
Treatment for cholangitis typically involves antibiotics to fight the infection and procedures to relieve the blockage. In some cases, a procedure called endoscopic retrograde cholangiopancreatography (ERCP) may be performed to remove the obstruction and restore normal bile flow.
