bilateral renal agenesis
Bilateral renal agenesis is a rare congenital condition where both kidneys fail to develop in a fetus. This condition occurs during early pregnancy and can lead to serious complications, as the kidneys are essential for filtering waste and maintaining fluid balance in the body. Without functioning kidneys, the fetus may not survive to term.
The absence of kidneys can be detected through imaging techniques like ultrasound. Babies born with bilateral renal agenesis often face significant health challenges, including oligohydramnios, which is a lack of amniotic fluid. Unfortunately, this condition is usually fatal shortly after birth due to the critical role of kidneys in bodily functions.
