batting average
Batting average is a statistic used in baseball to measure a player's hitting performance. It is calculated by dividing the number of hits a player gets by the number of times they have been at bat, excluding walks and hit-by-pitches. The result is expressed as a decimal, typically rounded to three places, such as .300.
For example, if a player has 30 hits in 100 at-bats, their batting average would be .300. A higher batting average indicates better performance, with .300 considered a strong average in Major League Baseball. This statistic helps teams and fans evaluate a player's effectiveness as a hitter.
