batter's box
The batter's box is a designated area on a baseball or softball field where the batter stands while attempting to hit the ball. It is a rectangular space located on either side of home plate, marked by chalk or paint. The batter must remain within this box during their turn at bat, and stepping out can result in a strike.
Each batter's box is typically 3 feet wide and 6 feet long, with one box for right-handed batters and another for left-handed batters. The position of the batter's box helps ensure fair play and provides a consistent spot for the batter to face the pitcher, who throws the ball from the pitcher's mound.
