baqa (Eternity)
Baqa, or Eternity, is a concept in Islamic philosophy that refers to the everlasting nature of existence after death. It signifies the continuation of the soul's journey in the afterlife, where individuals experience the consequences of their earthly actions. This belief emphasizes the importance of living a righteous life, as one's deeds determine their fate in the eternal realm.
In Sufism, Baqa is often contrasted with Fana, which means annihilation or the dissolution of the self. While Fana represents the merging of the individual soul with the divine, Baqa highlights the soul's persistence and individuality in the eternal state. Together, these concepts illustrate the spiritual journey towards unity with the divine while maintaining one's essence.
