axolotls
Axolotls are unique amphibians known for their ability to regenerate lost body parts, including limbs and even parts of their heart and brain. They are native to the lakes of Mexico, particularly Lake Xochimilco. Unlike most amphibians, axolotls remain in their larval form throughout their lives, a phenomenon known as neoteny.
These creatures have external gills that resemble feathery structures on the sides of their heads, allowing them to breathe underwater. Axolotls come in various colors, including wild-type, leucistic, and golden albino. They are popular in scientific research and as pets due to their fascinating biology and friendly nature.
