axis deer
The axis deer, also known as the chital, is a medium-sized deer native to the Indian subcontinent. They are easily recognized by their distinctive reddish-brown coat, which is covered in white spots. Adult males typically weigh between 150 to 200 pounds, while females are smaller, weighing around 100 to 120 pounds.
Axis deer are social animals that live in herds, often led by a dominant male. They are primarily grazers, feeding on grasses, leaves, and fruits. Their natural habitat includes forests, grasslands, and open woodlands, where they can find ample food and cover from predators.
