artha (Wealth)
Artha refers to the concept of wealth and prosperity in Indian philosophy, particularly within the framework of the four aims of life known as purusharthas. It encompasses not just material wealth, but also the means to achieve a comfortable and secure life. Artha is considered essential for fulfilling one's duties and responsibilities, allowing individuals to support themselves and their families.
In the context of Hinduism, Buddhism, and other Indian traditions, artha is viewed as a necessary pursuit, but it should be balanced with the other aims of life: dharma (duty), kama (pleasure), and moksha (liberation). This balance ensures that the pursuit of wealth does not lead to unethical behavior or neglect of spiritual growth.
