anterior inferior cerebellar arteries
The anterior inferior cerebellar arteries (AICA) are small blood vessels that supply oxygen-rich blood to the anterior and inferior parts of the cerebellum, a region of the brain responsible for coordination and balance. These arteries branch off from the basilar artery, which is located at the base of the brain.
AICA also provides blood to parts of the brainstem, particularly the pons, and contributes to the vascular supply of the inner ear. Proper functioning of AICA is essential for maintaining normal cerebellar and auditory functions, and any blockage or damage can lead to neurological deficits.
