amplitude modulation
Amplitude modulation (AM) is a technique used in electronic communication, most commonly for transmitting radio signals. In AM, the strength (or amplitude) of a carrier wave is varied in proportion to the audio signal being sent. This allows the audio information to be encoded onto the carrier wave, enabling it to travel long distances.
When the AM signal reaches a receiver, it can be demodulated to extract the original audio signal. This process involves detecting the changes in amplitude and converting them back into sound. AM is widely used in AM radio broadcasting, where it allows for the transmission of voice and music over vast areas.
