acute otitis media
Acute otitis media is an infection of the middle ear, commonly seen in children. It occurs when bacteria or viruses cause inflammation and fluid buildup behind the eardrum, leading to pain and discomfort. Symptoms may include ear pain, fever, and irritability.
This condition can develop after a cold or respiratory infection, as the Eustachian tube becomes blocked. Treatment often involves pain relief and, in some cases, antibiotics if a bacterial infection is suspected. Most children recover quickly, but recurrent cases may require further medical evaluation.
