Zone Of Proximal Development
The Zone of Proximal Development (ZPD) is a concept introduced by psychologist Lev Vygotsky. It refers to the range of tasks that a learner can perform with the help of a more knowledgeable person, such as a teacher or peer, but cannot yet accomplish independently. This zone highlights the potential for learning and development when support is provided.
In the ZPD, the learner is guided through challenges that are just beyond their current abilities. This support can take various forms, including verbal guidance, demonstrations, or collaborative problem-solving. The goal is to help the learner gradually gain independence and mastery over new skills and knowledge.
