Zhabdrung Ngawang Namgyal
Zhabdrung Ngawang Namgyal was a significant figure in the history of Bhutan, known for unifying the country in the 17th century. He was a Tibetan lama and a key leader who established the dual system of governance, combining spiritual and temporal authority. His efforts laid the foundation for the unique political and religious identity of Bhutan.
He is also credited with introducing the Drukpa school of Buddhism to Bhutan, which remains the dominant tradition today. Zhabdrung Ngawang Namgyal is revered as a national hero, and his legacy is celebrated through various festivals and monuments across the country.
