Zengid dynasty
The Zengid dynasty was a Muslim dynasty that ruled parts of the Levant during the 12th century. Founded by Imad ad-Din Zengi, it emerged as a significant power in the region, particularly in response to the Crusades. The dynasty is known for its military campaigns against the Crusader states and for its efforts to unify Muslim territories.
The Zengids are also recognized for their contributions to architecture and culture, with notable structures like the Citadel of Aleppo. The dynasty eventually declined, paving the way for the rise of the Ayyubid dynasty, founded by Saladin, who was a prominent figure in the fight against the Crusaders.
